Location Near Charleston

Charleston offers excellent coastal paddling venues, proximity to Charleston International Airport, historic sites and many other attractions. The principal training site will be on James Island with great facilities for kayak training, meetings and lodging. Applications accepted from Auxiliarists and state boating specialists, with priority given to those who can explain clearly how they plan to use this training to promote paddlecraft safety.

James Island County Park

James Island County Park is less than 30 minutes from the Charleston International Airport(CHS). The park boasts a 100-acre pond, with multiple secluded coves suitable for on-water training in almost any wind state. Additional coastal training sites include the Folly River, the Stono River and Charleston Harbor. Directions from Charleston International Airport to James Island County Park can be found HERE.

Lodging

A total of 10 three-bedroom cottages have been reserved at the park. They are being provided at no cost to participants on a first-come basis and preference for Auxiliarists. Placing 3 participants in each cabin will foster camaraderie and keep costs down. Nearby hotels and AirBnB options are also available for those who prefer to make their own arrangements. Cottages will be gender based and each person will have a separate room. Every effort will be made to accommodate those traveling with a partner.
